Château du Tertre
Château du Tertre is a historic Bordeaux wine estate located in the Margaux appellation, in the Médoc region of southwestern France. Classified as a Fifth Growth (Cinquième Cru) in the prestigious 1855 Bordeaux Classification, the château has a legacy that dates back to the 12th century, with documented winemaking from the 18th century.
The estate spans approximately 80 hectares, with about 50 hectares planted to vines, primarily Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, and Petit Verdot. Château du Tertre is known for producing elegant and aromatic wines typical of the Margaux style, offering notes of red and black fruits, floral hints such as violets, and complex nuances like cedar and tobacco as they age. The Grand Vin, Château du Tertre, is complemented by a second wine, Les Hauts du Tertre. After a significant revitalization in the late 1990s under Dutch businessman Eric Albada Jelgersma (who also owned Château Giscours), the estate was acquired in 2021 by the Helfrich family, owners of the Grands Chais de France Group.
