Château Giscours
Château Giscours is a prominent wine estate in Margaux on Bordeaux’s Left Bank, classified as a Third Growth (Troisième Cru) in the 1855 Bordeaux Classification. It is one of the largest classified growths in the Médoc and has a long history dating back to the 16th century.
Today, the estate is owned by the Dutch businessman Eric Albada Jelgersma (whose family continues to manage it), and it has undergone significant revitalization over the past few decades, restoring its reputation among top Margaux producers. The vineyard covers around 80–95 hectares, planted mainly with Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, along with smaller amounts of Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot.
Château Giscours wines are typically known for their elegance, aromatic lift, and silky texture, hallmarks of the Margaux appellation. They often show notes of red and black fruits, violet, spice, and subtle oak, with refined tannins and good aging potential. Compared to more powerful Left Bank wines, Giscours leans toward finesse and balance, though in strong vintages it can also display impressive depth and structure.
The estate produces its grand vin, Château Giscours, as well as a second wine, La Sirène de Giscours. In recent years, increased attention to vineyard management and winemaking precision has further elevated quality, making Giscours a reliable and sometimes underrated choice among classified growth Bordeaux wines.
