Chapelle-Chambertin Grand Cru
Chapelle-Chambertin Grand Cru is one of the nine Grand Cru vineyards in the Gevrey-Chambertin appellation in Burgundy’s Côte de Nuits. Although smaller and less famous than nearby Chambertin or Clos de Bèze, it produces refined and expressive Pinot Noir wines that can be exceptionally elegant and age-worthy when made by skilled producers.
Located just below Chambertin Clos de Bèze, Chapelle-Chambertin covers roughly 5.5 hectares, making it one of the smallest Grand Crus in the area. It is divided into two sub-climats: La Chapelle and Les Gémeaux. The vineyard has a slightly cooler microclimate and a gentle slope, with soils of limestone and marl that contribute to the finesse and aromatic complexity of the wines.
Wines from Chapelle-Chambertin are typically floral and finely structured, with flavors of red cherry, raspberry, rose petal, and subtle earthy spice. Compared to the more powerful Chambertin wines, Chapelle-Chambertin tends to be more delicate, with soft tannins and a graceful, nuanced palate. While it may not have the same aging potential or density as its more renowned neighbors, in top vintages it can mature beautifully over 10–20 years.
Top producers include Domaine Ponsot, Louis Jadot, and Domaine Pierre Damoy, among others. Chapelle-Chambertin is a Grand Cru that rewards those who appreciate subtlety, aromatic finesse, and balance in Pinot Noir.
