The château is owned by the Delon family and managed by Jean-Hubert Delon. Its vineyards occupy a prime position bordering Pauillac, including parcels adjacent to Château Latour, which contributes to the wine’s powerful and structured character. The estate covers about 98 hectares, planted predominantly with Cabernet Sauvignon, along with Merlot and smaller amounts of Cabernet Franc.

The grand vin, Château Léoville Las Cases, is renowned for its intensity, precision, and longevity, typically showing flavors of blackcurrant, graphite, cedar, tobacco, and crushed stone. The wines are often quite firm and concentrated in youth, requiring significant aging—sometimes decades—to fully reveal their complexity and finesse.

In addition to the grand vin, the estate produces Le Petit Lion du Marquis de Las Cases (its second wine) and Clos du Marquis, which, despite its name, comes from separate vineyard parcels.

Stylistically, Léoville Las Cases is considered one of the most structured and “serious” wines of Saint-Julien, combining Pauillac-like power with Saint-Julien elegance. Its consistency, terroir, and long aging curve have made it a benchmark Bordeaux and a favorite among collectors seeking wines with both depth and longevity.
