TASTING NOTES: Composed of 56% Merlot, 4.4% Cabernet Franc and 39.6% Cabernet Sauvignon, the deep garnet-purple colored 2017 La Mission Haut-Brion is a little reticent on the nose to begin, slowly unfurling to reveal notes of crushed blackcurrants, Black Forest cake and Morello cherries with suggestions of cigar box, pencil shavings, charcoal and fertile loam. Medium-bodied, the palate has fantastic intensity with loads of mineral layers and a rock-solid line of firm, grainy tannins, finishing very long and with great energy.

Château la Mission Haut-Brion

About Château la Mission Haut-Brion

La Mission Haut-Brion is a prestigious wine estate located in the Pessac-Léognan appellation of Bordeaux, France, renowned for producing exceptional red and white wines. The estate's origins trace back to the early 16th century, when it was owned by the Lestonnac family. By the late 17th century, it came under the control of Lazarist monks, who played a pivotal role in its development. In 1983, it was acquired by Domaine Clarence Dillon, the same family that owns the neighboring Château Haut-Brion, bringing these two iconic estates under unified management.

Situated in the Graves subregion of Bordeaux, the vineyard benefits from gravelly soils and a warm microclimate, ideal for growing premium grape varieties. For its red wines, the estate primarily cultivates Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Cabernet Franc, while its rare white wines are made from Sémillon and Sauvignon Blanc.

The estate's flagship wine, La Mission Haut-Brion (Red), is celebrated for its rich, concentrated, and complex character, often rivaling First Growth Bordeaux wines in quality. It exhibits deep color, aromatic intensity, and exceptional aging potential. The estate also produces La Mission Haut-Brion Blanc, a highly coveted white wine known for its citrus, floral, and mineral complexity, with excellent aging capacity.

Despite not being included in the 1855 Classification of Bordeaux, La Mission Haut-Brion consistently ranks among the finest wines of the region, commanding high prices at auctions and earning a reputation as a favorite among collectors and connoisseurs.
