TASTING NOTES: With the Montée de Tonnerre being the most heavily-frosted of the Domaine Raveneau premier cru parcels, it is not surprising that this wine was lagging a bit behind the other premier crus in the cellar in mid-November. The nose is quite reticent, but eventually offers up scents of apple, pear, complex, chalky minerality, dried flowers, beeswax and just a hint of vanillin oak. On the palate the wine is pure, full-bodied and rock solid at the core, with a bit more concentration than usual from the low yields. The finish is long, poised and displays an excellent structural chassis for long-term development, with racy acids, impeccable mineral drive and excellent grip, and despite this wine lagging a bit in development at the present time, it seems very likely to be flat out brilliant once it blossoms.

Domaine François Raveneau

About Domaine François Raveneau

Domaine François Raveneau stands as an illustrious and revered winery nestled in the heart of the Chablis wine region within Burgundy, France. This domaine has earned an exceptional reputation for crafting some of the most distinguished Chablis wines, with a particular focus on Premier Cru and Grand Cru vineyards. Founded by François Raveneau, a visionary pioneer who passed away in 2000, the legacy continues under the stewardship of his sons, Bernard and Jean-Marie Raveneau.

The domaine's vineyard holdings encompass coveted plots in renowned locations, including Grand Cru vineyards such as Blanchot, Les Clos, and Valmur, as well as several Premier Cru sites. These vineyards, characterized by their unique terroir, contribute significantly to the distinctiveness of Raveneau's wines.

A cornerstone of the Raveneau winemaking philosophy is a commitment to traditional practices and meticulous craftsmanship. Emphasizing minimal intervention both in the vineyard and the cellar, the family allows the terroir to take center stage in the final expression of their wines. Indigenous yeasts are employed during fermentation, and aging takes place in a combination of stainless steel and used oak barrels.

The Chablis wines produced by Domaine François Raveneau are celebrated for their purity, precision, and the authentic representation of the Chablis terroir. Displaying a harmonious blend of vibrant acidity, minerality, and a nuanced array of flavors, ranging from citrus to floral notes with occasional hints of flintiness, these wines are a testament to the estate's unwavering commitment to quality.

With a limited production, Raveneau wines are coveted for their exclusivity, making them highly sought-after among discerning wine enthusiasts and collectors. The scarcity of these exceptional wines further solidifies the domaine's status as a reference point for Chablis, and the legacy established by François Raveneau continues to shine through, ensuring that Domaine François Raveneau remains a beacon of excellence in the world of Chablis wines.
