About Nuits-Saint-Georges Premier Cru

Within Burgundy, Nuits-Saint-Georges occupies a distinctive position. Rather than being defined purely by elegance or power, the wines of this appellation are known for their structure, depth, and strong sense of character. The Premier Cru vineyards represent the core of this identity, offering some of the most age-worthy expressions of Pinot Noir in the region.

One of the defining features of Nuits-Saint-Georges Premier Cru is the clear influence of vineyard location. The northern sites, closer to Vosne-Romanée, tend to produce more refined and aromatic wines, while the southern vineyards are typically more robust, with greater structure and earthy complexity. This contrast gives the appellation a unique diversity within the Côte de Nuits.

The wines are generally built for ageing, showing flavours of dark cherry, black fruit, spice, and a distinctive earthy character. Firm tannins and fresh acidity provide the backbone, meaning that many examples require time to fully open up. With maturity, they develop additional layers of complexity while maintaining their structure.
