TASTING NOTES: A super-fresh nose of intensely spicy red cherry, cassis, Asian-style tea and discreet earth aromas also displays a hint of sandalwood. The mouth feel of the larger-scaled flavors is completely different as they're suave, round and generously proportioned though the tight, muscular, moderately austere and very serious finish makes it clear that this is not going to make for especially good early drinking.

Échezeaux Grand Cru

About Échezeaux Grand Cru

Échezeaux is a Grand Cru vineyard located in the Burgundy wine region of France. It is part of the Côte de Nuits subregion, situated between the villages of Vosne-Romanée and Flagey-Échezeaux. Échezeaux is renowned for producing high-quality red wines made from the Pinot Noir grape variety.

This Grand Cru vineyard is divided into multiple parcels, each owned by different wine producers. As with many Burgundy Grand Crus, the wines from Échezeaux are highly sought after for their complexity, depth, and aging potential.

Échezeaux wines often display a combination of red and black fruit flavors, along with floral and spice notes. The wines are known for their elegance, structure, and the ability to evolve beautifully with age. The specific characteristics can vary depending on the producer, as each has its own winemaking style and approach to viticulture.

The name Échezeaux is derived from the Latin word "ascalon," which refers to a type of soil. The vineyard is situated on a mix of soils, including limestone, clay, and gravel, contributing to the unique terroir that influences the character of the wines.

Producers such as Domaine de la Romanée-Conti, Domaine Emmanuel Rouget, and many others have parcels in Échezeaux, and their wines from this Grand Cru vineyard are highly regarded in the world of Burgundy enthusiasts and collectors.
