| TASTING NOTES: | The 2016 Niederhausen Hermannsberg GG displays a vital and intense, greenish shimmering citrus color and opens with a fascinating, refined and spicy/citric bouquet of ripe Riesling, ginger, lime/lemon and grapefruit notes and a characteristic elegant slate aroma. Full-bodied, tight and intense on the palate, this is a pure, structured and almost austere Riesling that, like the 2016 Kupfergrube, lacks the drive, length and energetic tension of the 2020s, even though it has intense and juicy fruit. There are fine bitters on the somewhat challenging but sustainable and promising saline finish that needs to be matched with the right dish. However, I dare to predict the 2020 vintage will become more exciting. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to taste the 2020 when I tasted this 2016 from two different bottles in two different tastings at the domain in July 2021. |
