| TASTING NOTES: | Last tasted by me in mid-September of 2012 soon before it was to have been bottled – but not due for release before 2016 -- the Koehler-Ruprecht 2011 Kallstadter Saumagen Riesling Spatlese trocken R displays the diversity and clarity of the best wines from what to my perception remains one of the three foremost addresses for dry German Riesling. Shimmering suggestions of crystalline impingements are allied on a silken yet fundamentally firm palate with incisive fresh ginger and nut oils, interactively accenting sweet corn, lime and fresh apple as well as Chablis-like salted, herbed chicken broth savor, while narcissus perfume billows in high-toned, musky profusion. This bottling stands in striking contrast with – not to mention a head higher than – the metaphorically warm, rich corresponding “regular” Saumagen Spatlese trocken. |
