TASTING NOTES: The 2013 Chevalier Montrachet Grand Cru has a welcoming bouquet with orange blossom and quince, superb mineralité and tension that just seems to flow from the glass. The palate is fresh and vibrant, very intense with a strict orange rind and saline finish that lingers in the mouth. This is a compelling Chevalier that holds its own against the Montrachet.

Lucien Le Moine

About Lucien Le Moine

Lucien Le Moine is a renowned micro-négoce (small-scale wine merchant) in Burgundy, France, celebrated for its high-quality, terroir-driven wines. Established in 1999 by Mounir Saouma, a Lebanese-born winemaker, and his wife, Rotem Brakin, Lucien Le Moine has quickly gained a reputation for producing exceptional wines that reflect the unique characteristics of Burgundy's premier vineyards. Despite its relatively recent establishment, Lucien Le Moine has rapidly become one of Burgundy’s most esteemed producers, known for its meticulous approach and limited production.

Lucien Le Moine operates as a micro-négoce, sourcing grapes from some of the most prestigious vineyards across Burgundy, including Grand Cru and Premier Cru sites in the Côte de Nuits and Côte de Beaune. The domaine focuses on sourcing grapes from top-tier vineyards with old vines, ensuring the highest quality and expression of terroir. The winemaking process at Lucien Le Moine is highly traditional, emphasizing minimal intervention to let the terroir speak. This includes natural fermentation, no fining or filtration, and aging in custom-made oak barrels. Each step of the winemaking process, from grape selection to bottling, is carried out with extreme care. The barrels are frequently monitored, and the wines are aged on their lees to develop complexity and depth. The estate produces a very limited number of bottles each year, ensuring that each wine receives the utmost attention and care.

Lucien Le Moine produces both red and white wines, primarily from Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, the signature grapes of Burgundy. The portfolio includes a wide range of wines from various appellations, with notable examples from Chambolle-Musigny, Gevrey-Chambertin, Vosne-Romanée, Meursault, and Puligny-Montrachet. The wines of Lucien Le Moine are known for their purity, elegance, and intense expression of terroir. They often exhibit complex aromas, balanced acidity, and a refined structure. Lucien Le Moine’s wines consistently receive high scores from wine critics and are praised for their precision, depth, and aging potential.
