TASTING NOTES: The 2015 (Niederhäuser) Hermannshöhle Riesling GG is cool and smoky on the nose--very clear and aristocratic, like always--with lemon and fine stony flavors, but also hints of pineapple, herbs and flint stones. What purity, depth and finesse there is here! On the palate, this is a full-bodied, rich, intense and elegant Riesling that's bottled only to be enjoyed in the next decade. It is deep, complex and mystical, and the texture is ripe and round--whereas the minerals are still sorting themselves out. This wine is still in the cellar, preparing itself to shine one day. All I can do today is testify to its complexity and depth, as well as its vitality and lemon freshness from the slate terroir.

Weingut Dönnhoff

About Weingut Dönnhoff

Weingut Donnhoff is a renowned winery located in the Nahe wine region of Germany. It is widely recognized for producing exceptional Riesling wines. The estate has a long history dating back to the mid-18th century, with Helmut Dönnhoff taking over winemaking responsibilities in 1971 and later passing the reins to his son, Cornelius Dönnhoff.

The vineyards of Weingut Donnhoff are primarily located in the village of Oberhausen an der Nahe, with some additional parcels in nearby villages. The unique terroir of the Nahe region, characterized by its volcanic soils, steep slopes, and diverse microclimates, contributes to the distinctiveness of Donnhoff's wines.

The winery's focus on quality and attention to detail has garnered widespread acclaim both domestically and internationally. Their Rieslings, in particular, are celebrated for their purity, precision, and expression of terroir. Donnhoff produces a range of Riesling styles, from dry to sweet, including single-vineyard bottlings that showcase the unique characteristics of specific sites.

In addition to Riesling, Weingut Donnhoff also cultivates other grape varieties such as Pinot Blanc, Pinot Gris, and Pinot Noir. The estate practices sustainable viticulture, with a commitment to preserving the natural environment and ensuring the long-term health of their vineyards.

Overall, Weingut Donnhoff is considered one of the top producers in Germany and a benchmark for quality Riesling wines worldwide.
