TASTING NOTES:	The 2023 Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru La Romanée is the most reductive wine in the range, unwinding in the glass with aromas of crisp stone fruits, apple blossom, toasted almonds and struck match. Medium to full-bodied, dense and concentrated, its satiny attack segues into a layered, structured mid-palate, girdled by racy acids, and concluding with a long, chalky finish.

About Chassagne-Montrachet Premier Cru

Chassagne-Montrachet Premier Cru wines represent some of the most complete and versatile expressions of Burgundy. Located in the southern part of the Côte de Beaune, the village of Chassagne-Montrachet is renowned for producing both exceptional white and red wines at Premier Cru level.

The appellation is best known for its white wines made from Chardonnay. These wines typically combine richness with structure, offering aromas of citrus, white flowers, stone fruit, and a pronounced mineral backbone. Compared to neighbouring Puligny-Montrachet, Chassagne-Montrachet Premier Cru whites are often slightly broader and more powerful, while still maintaining balance and freshness.

In addition to its whites, Chassagne-Montrachet also produces a small but notable quantity of red wines from Pinot Noir. These wines tend to show more structure and depth than many other reds from the Côte de Beaune, with flavours of red berries, earthy tones, and subtle spice. While less widely known, they offer an interesting alternative for those seeking a different expression of Burgundy.

The Premier Cru vineyards of Chassagne-Montrachet are spread across a range of slopes with limestone-rich soils, contributing to wines that reflect both terroir and vintage variation. Well-regarded sites such as Les Caillerets, Les Chenevottes, Les Vergers, and Morgeot are known for producing wines with excellent ageing potential, often developing complexity over 10 to 15 years.
