TASTING NOTES:	From ancient vines planted in 1912 which nonetheless apparently set a generous yield of 40 hl/ha. Small berries, but plenty of them. 100% whole bunch ,100% new wood. Black centre with purple rim. Very dense with a little whole bunch pepper. Dark fruit, but absolutely gorgeous. Sumptuous but balanced, seemingly endless on the palate. The fruit is mostly dark but it is beautifully balanced. 12.8% finished and with least acidity. Perfectly integrated tannins, “like a mattress” says Nicolas. This is great wine.

About Domaine Robert Groffier

Domaine Robert Groffier Père & Fils is a highly regarded family-owned wine estate in the Côte de Nuits of Burgundy, France, celebrated for producing some of the region’s most elegant and collectible red wines from Pinot Noir.

Located in the village of Morey-Saint-Denis (though most of its vineyards lie just over the border in Chambolle-Musigny and Gevrey-Chambertin), the estate covers about 8 hectares of prime sites, making it relatively small but exceptionally prestigious. Under the stewardship of Nicolas Groffier, the fourth generation of his family to run the domaine, the focus is on expressing the unique character of each vineyard parcel through sustainable viticulture, hand harvesting, and traditional Burgundian winemaking techniques.

Domaine Groffier owns parcels in some of Burgundy’s most coveted vineyards: Bonnes Mares Grand Cru, Chambertin Clos de Bèze Grand Cru, and multiple Chambolle-Musigny Premier Cru sites including Les Amoureuses (of which Groffier is the largest single owner), Les Hauts Doix, and Les Sentiers. These holdings allow the domaine to produce wines of remarkable finesse, aromatic complexity, and ageing potential, with each cuvée reflecting the nuances of its terroir.

In addition to great crus, Groffier also makes regional wines such as Bourgogne Pinot Noir and Bourgogne Passetoutgrain, offering approachable expressions of Burgundian Pinot Noir and Gamay that still carry the estate’s signature elegance. Today, Groffier’s wines are prized by collectors and connoisseurs alike for their balance of power and subtlety, combining Burgundian tradition with careful attention to detail in vineyard and winery alike.
