TASTING NOTES: Strong ruby, purple reflections, delicate ochre rim. Subtly minty, ethereal with dark cherry fruit in the background, a hint of figs, nougat and candied orange zest, inviting bouquet. Juicy, sweet black cherries, fine pronounced fruit, tightly-meshed, ripe, supporting tannins, freshly structured, salty touch on the finish, pithy style with good ageing potential.

Domaine Y. Clerget (often referred to as Domaine Yvon Clerget) is a historic Burgundy estate based in the CĆ“te de Beaune, with roots dating back to 1268, making it one of the oldest continuously family-run domaines in the region. The Clerget family has been producing wine for over 28 generations, deeply tied to the villages of Volnay and Pommard.

The modern identity of the domaine is closely linked to Thibaud Clerget, who took over in 2015 at a young age after gaining experience in Burgundy, Oregon, and New Zealand. His arrival marked a true revival of the estate, as there had been a period where grapes were sold off rather than bottled under the family name. Under his leadership, the domaine has quickly risen to prominence, combining deep-rooted tradition with a more contemporary, precise approach to winemaking.

The estate is smallā€”around 6 hectaresā€”with holdings in some of Burgundyā€™s most sought-after terroirs, including Volnay Premier Crus (such as Les Caillerets, Les Champans, and Clos du Verseuil monopole), Pommard Premier Cru Les Rugiens, parcels in Meursault, and even a plot in Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru. This limited size allows for meticulous vineyard work, often following organic principles and focusing on low yields and careful selection.

Stylistically, Domaine Y. Clerget is known for elegant, terroir-driven Pinot Noir with a strong emphasis on finesse rather than power. Thibaud Clerget favors a relatively gentle, low-intervention approach in the cellarā€”using indigenous yeasts, moderate oak, and sometimes whole-cluster fermentationā€”to highlight purity and site expression.
