Corton Grand Cru is a prestigious appellation in the Burgundy wine region of France, located in the Côte de Beaune. It is unique for being the only Grand Cru in Burgundy that produces both red and white wines, though red wines made from Pinot Noir dominate. Situated on the Corton hill, which spans the communes of Aloxe-Corton, Pernand-Vergelesses, and Ladoix-Serrigny, the appellation benefits from diverse soils, including marl, limestone, and clay, contributing to the complexity of its wines. The red Corton wines are known for their power, structure, and longevity, often featuring flavors of dark fruits, earthy notes, and spice. These robust wines have deep color and tannic structure, allowing them to age for decades and develop complex tertiary aromas. The white wines, produced primarily from Chardonnay, are rich and full-bodied, with flavors of citrus, white flowers, and sometimes a hint of oak or minerality. These white wines, particularly those from the Corton-Charlemagne climat, are considered among the finest in the world. The vineyard is divided into several climats, such as Le Corton and Les Bressandes, which may be labeled individually.
