TASTING NOTES: The 2015 Puligny-Montrachet Les Perrières 1er Cru has the most attractive nose of four tasted in this flight from this particular vineyard: well defined, with mineral notes suffusing the citrus fruit with just a hint of white peach, and neatly integrated oak. The palate is very well balanced, offering lovely orange peel and walnut oil notes and good depth, and perhaps just a little exotic toward the finish. Yet that never impedes upon the expression of Puligny-Montrachet. Very well crafted and highly recommended

Puligny-Montrachet

About Puligny-Montrachet

Puligny-Montrachet, a distinguished village nestled in Burgundy's Côte de Beaune, stands as a testament to the artistry of Chardonnay winemaking. Renowned for its white wines of unparalleled quality, Puligny-Montrachet has carved a niche for itself as a premier producer in the heart of the prestigious Côte d'Or.

The grape of choice in this esteemed village is Chardonnay, and Puligny-Montrachet's commitment to excellence is evident in its wines. The terroir plays a pivotal role, characterized by limestone-rich soils that bestow minerality and structure upon the vines. Puligny-Montrachet is home to several Premier Cru and Grand Cru vineyards, including Les Folatières, Les Pucelles, Champ Gain, and a portion of the illustrious Montrachet and Bâtard-Montrachet vineyards.

Winemakers in Puligny-Montrachet adhere to traditional techniques, allowing the terroir to express itself fully. Fermentation and aging take place in oak barrels, imparting a subtle oak influence that enhances the complexity of the wines.

The tasting profile of Puligny-Montrachet wines is characterized by elegance and finesse. A harmonious balance between fruit, acidity, and minerality is achieved, with notes of citrus fruits, orchard fruits, white flowers, and a distinctive flinty or stony character. Beyond their immediate appeal, Puligny-Montrachet wines possess a remarkable aging potential, evolving over time to unveil additional layers of complexity.

The village boasts several Premier Cru vineyards, each contributing its unique characteristics to the wines. Notable producers, including Domaine des Comtes Lafon, Ramonet, Arnaud Ente, Domaine Leflaive, Domaine Sauzet, and Domaine Carillon, further enhance Puligny-Montrachet's reputation for crafting exceptional white Burgundy wines.
